Yesterday I visited the Award Ceremony of the SoundTrackCologne 19. A truly celebratory event for serveral film audio awards and always an inspiration.
Walter Murch received his Lifetime Achievement Award. To be honest, I didn’t know him before. He is an American film editor, director, writer, the first sound designer and has worked with people like George Lucas or Francis Ford Coppola.
But he’s also an inventor: he was one of those who invented the 5.1 sound system.
So he seems to be a bit like me, combining different disciplines like art and technology. It was an honour for me to be in the same room with such a man.
